Travel

There are many other ways to save, too. I have to travel a great deal for work. Instead of having my assistant call some travel agent and book something through a travel agent, I take the 5 minutes to book the travel myself on Travelocity. Not only do I find the lowest fare (which my clients appreciate) but I also receive the college savings. I also book my rental cars through Avis on the Upromise site -- again, you get the savings and they search for the lowest Avis rate. You can also book hotels through Upromise, although I usually book Marriott hotels which are not part of the program (you can book them through Travelocity or similar but you have to pay up front and cancellations are a hassle).

I have been a member since August of 2002 and have savings of $64 from Avis and $340 from Travelocity alone. I also check to see if there is a Upromise restaurant near my hotel and if there is I can add additional savings.

My wife and I have saved over $4300 since August 2002 (much from the Citibank card).

Wow, ND, that Travelocity is a great tip. Thanks! We got the most out of our savings from using a participating realtor for the purchase of our home. It was awesome. We also have the Upromise CitiCard and SpeedPass and those contribute a bunch.

I am new so I am not sure this has been asked already, but what are people doing without the RemindU program? I had previously installed the Upromise toolbar and HATED it. I loathe the idea of having to go back and install it again!

BTW SavingforNDfor3:
We, too, are a Fighting Irish family. We've had family members there for undergraduate school, graduate school, and law school. Perhaps our own will end up there (they are little still), so we are saving, saving, saving!

I just joined Upromise tonight to start saving for my kids to go to college, thank goodness they are 7 and 10 right now. Anyway, the question I wanted to ask you was do I need to install the toolbar for any reason? Also,do I need the Citibank card. Any help and advice you can give me I would greatly appreciate it, you have been a member a while right? I would love for someone to kinda show me the ropes-if you don't mind. I have had 4 strokes this year, well last year and I'm doing exceptionally well,by the grace of God, but I get confused and slow. So it's up to you. Thanks, and God Bless

Ronda,

You don't have to install the toolbar or get the Citi Upromise card to benefit from Upromise, although they can either help ensure you don't miss a savings opportunity (toolbar) or provide additional savings (credit card). It really depends on your circumstances and your preferences. For example, you may have another rewards card that works better for you. You can still register that card for Upromise savings, you just won't get the Upromise rewards offered by the Citi card.

If you don't install the toolbar, be sure to start your online shopping at participating merchants from the Upromise website.
